Should I upgrade my i5 2500k to a i5 6600? - Oveяloяd - May 6, 2016 Hey so I've been contemplating upgrading my 2500k to a 6600, I know I'd need a new mobo and ram but I just want to hear your opinion on whether the performance increase is worth it because I've been feeling the age of my 2500k. This is the Proc: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0136JONRM/ref=psdc_229189_t1_B012M8M7TY This is the mobo: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B015CQ8D46/ref=crt_ewc_title_huc_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER This is the Ram: http://www.amazon.com/Kingston-2133MHz-Non-ECC-Desktop-HX421C14FBK2/dp/B00TY6A1P0/ref=sr_1_3?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1462596723&sr=1-3&keywords=ddr4+ram What do you think? * - Morrakiu - May 6, 2016 If your not struggling no point to upgrade. Whats your GPU? If your GPU is lower than a 390 or so its not gunna be a big upgrade to change the CPU. * - Oveяloяd - May 6, 2016 My GPU is a GTX 960 SSC 4GB * - You Just Got Sarged - May 7, 2016 If you're only gaming you are only going to get about 5-10fps improvement by upgrading with the video card you have. The 2500k is still a good processor. Same thing with my 2600k its still good. If anything overclock the processor. Take a look here: * - Morrakiu - May 7, 2016 (May 6, 2016 11:02 PM)Oveяloяd Wrote: My GPU is a GTX 960 SSC 4GB Yeah you have an entry level card there is no point to upgrading your CPU. * - webdev77 - May 7, 2016 I don't think that it's worth it for you just yet. Especially since you only have a gtx 960. The performance increase really isn't going to matter. Overclocking is definitely the best fix in this case since you can essentially match performance of the 6600 by doing so. * - drugs - May 7, 2016 I doubt your CPU is giving you any trouble. If you're looking better PC responsiveness, then I can bet it's your storage solution. If you don't already have one, get a SSD. And as others have also said, your GTX 960 is an entry-level card. If you're looking for more FPS in games, you should look into upgrading the GPU. |
