Linux GUI on Debian - Pingdom - May 7, 2016 Can someone provide me a tutorial where I can install a nice GUI onto my dedicated server which is running Debian. I would also appreciate being shown how to connect to it * - Sta.ze - May 7, 2016 You aren't going to be able to see the user interface? Every time I install it and run it, it doesn't do anything. Your best bet would be to install teamviewer on your system after the installation. then connect that way. * - Cannot Compute - May 7, 2016 Seeing as it's a server you really won't need more than SSH and FTP access. Also you probably already have some sort of GUI installed. You should be able to connect to it just fine by using Window's built in remote desktop program. * - Xentric QT - May 7, 2016 dont use team view just connect using a RDP if that's what you want but tbh you most likely dont even need a gui you can do everything really through ssh and ftp * - Baked - May 8, 2016 Install xinit and xserver utilities; you'll have to google. Choose your WM (I recommend Openbox or for DE use Gnome) Code sudo apt-get install gnomeadd Code exec gnome-sessionto the xinitrc which should be in home folder after following xinit installation instructions. I think you'll need VNC Server for this to login to a desktop remotely on linux * - CorrosiveBlueberry - May 8, 2016 True what the last server said is necessary basically #1. Install an xorg-xserver metapackage which is most likely available in some name or for #2. Install. Xinit /xorg-xinit which is usually separate #3. Choose your desktop environment and install the meta package preferably. (Lxde, gnome, xfce, kde etc) #4. Make a file called ~/.xinitrc and inside it type the lines exec startlxde (for lxde ) change the instructions for different Wm environment etc. Then just type startx to start desktop. As for remotely. .. Ssh is so much better than rdp or vnc. Wouldn't really bother with gui remotely.. but you could. * - Uppermost - May 9, 2016 Why would you need to run a GUI? All can be done via ssh and is way less resource-intensive. * - PaulieGolding - May 9, 2016 (May 8, 2016 05:27 AM)¥ Ɨ Jonah Ɨ ¥ Wrote: As for remotely. .. Ssh is so much better than rdp or vnc.
