Guys help with 1and1 CP - Purefication - May 9, 2016 So i have a domain and a host there... and when i click on start a new project it offers me only their webaddress like http://sfasffafas959.apps-1and1.com/ and tells me " No domains are free so we use this one " what to do? * - D3xus - May 9, 2016 If you have a paid domain, you should be able to connect it to FTP hosting with a hosting provider like GoDaddy, HostGator, etc. Not every domain manager will explicitly have hosting, however. Where is your domain currently hosted? * - Purefication - May 9, 2016 (May 9, 2016 10:28 AM)D3xus Wrote: If you have a paid domain, you should be able to connect it to FTP hosting with a hosting provider like GoDaddy, HostGator, etc. Not every domain manager will explicitly have hosting, however. Where is your domain currently hosted? My Domain is hosted in Godaddy but I already like put the name servers of 1and1 on Godaddy and it told me the DNS transfer was complete so it means it's ready.. plus I have an extra domain I got for free from 1and1 so I have 2 in total.. so how do I host on my domains ? * - D3xus - May 9, 2016 (May 9, 2016 11:42 AM)Purefication Wrote: My Domain is hosted in Godaddy but I already like put the name servers of 1and1 on Godaddy and it told me the DNS transfer was complete so it means it's ready.. plus I have an extra domain I got for free from 1and1 so I have 2 in total.. so how do I host on my domains ?So you're hosting with 1and1 but your domain is with GoDaddy...That makes things needlessly complex. It might be best to just move the domain to 1and1, or cancel your current hosting plan and get one with GoDaddy. If you don't want to do that, try looking at 1and1's documentation for hosting. https://help.1and1.com/hosting-c37630 * - SteezyHB - May 9, 2016 (May 9, 2016 12:02 PM)D3xus Wrote: So you're hosting with 1and1 but your domain is with GoDaddy...That makes things needlessly complex. No need to do that, you can use a DNS A record to point the domain to the hosting IP. https://www.godaddy.com/help/manage-dns-for-your-domain-names-680 * - D3xus - May 9, 2016 (May 9, 2016 01:49 PM)SteezyHB Wrote: No need to do that, you can use a DNS A record to point the domain to the hosting IP.I know that it's possible, but it's sometimes easier for the end user if everything is under one roof. No need to go through two companies if you can do it under one. There are sometimes benefits to having domain/hosting with two different companies. Sometimes there aren't. * - SteezyHB - May 9, 2016 (May 9, 2016 01:52 PM)D3xus Wrote: I know that it's possible, but it's sometimes easier for the end user if everything is under one roof. No need to go through two companies if you can do it under one. What exactly do you mean? As far as I know the end user won't even see the redirect to another company. Obviously it's indeed easier (for the admin) to have the domain and hosting at the same company, but what difference does it make? redirecting the domain to X IP or Y IP. * - D3xus - May 9, 2016 (May 9, 2016 02:32 PM)SteezyHB Wrote: What exactly do you mean?Being able to log into one account and have both hosting and domain control, versus two accounts under two companies and needing to depend on two companies for separate hosting and domain related controls. * - Rushax - May 9, 2016 As D3xus said it can be an advantage having both all under one, however the only trouble that could occur is the price of renewal increasing significantly and the problem it may be to transfer DNS records. OP there are a lot of tutorials on how to transfer over DNS records if you have a separate hosting provider to your domain provider. I do it all the time to keep costs as low as possible. A lot of companies have only tuts to follow for this as others have mentioned or try Google. |
