Recovering stolen laptop through IP address - Mafiagal - May 24, 2016 Hi everyone, this is my first post on this board. While I'm interested in learning hacking, I have a more pressing issue to tend to at this time. A former neighbor stole my Macbook Pro. He moved out 2 weeks after I notified them the police would be conducting an investigation and interrogating everyone. So he literally flew off the scene. Two days after the Mac was stolen, my gmail account showed a connection from a specific IP. I went to the police and filed a police report, but they're saying that they can only provide personal information about an IP if we're talking about a serious offense such as murder, terrorism, etc. Not theft. I'm outside of the US, so it might be different where you are. My question here is: Is there a way to actually find it on my own through that IP address? I know who the person is, but since he moved overnight, I don't know where he is. I do have ways to find him, but then it would be incredibly difficult to prove he has the Mac. The police said that if I was able to catch the person with the Mac, they could arrest him. I'm hoping you guys can help me 🤩 I can't afford another laptop right at this time and I really need it. I'd appreciate any info you could provide on this matter. Thanks! 👍 * - Ρhoenix - May 24, 2016 Yes, it's possible if you have the right set of skills. I have a good chance of finding their location and address if you can provide me the IP address. * - Mafiagal - May 24, 2016 Thank you so much, how would I go about giving you the info? I have only posted once, so I don't have the right to PM, can I just post it on here? Is it safe to do so? * - Ρhoenix - May 24, 2016 (May 24, 2016 08:07 PM)Mafiagal Wrote: Thank you so much, how would I go about giving you the info? You will post the exact address on this forum too? * - Ρhoenix - May 25, 2016 (May 24, 2016 08:44 PM)Mafiagal Wrote: And then what follows? I would not want to publicly give out that person's info. Thanks for helping. * - Ρhoenix - May 25, 2016 (May 25, 2016 07:58 AM)Mafiagal Wrote: My gmail ID is youkebe1, can we take it outside of this forum? Thanks. * - SloppyCode - May 25, 2016 It's impossible to track from an IP address because geo locations aren't accurate. * - Ρhoenix - May 25, 2016 (May 25, 2016 08:02 PM)SloppyCode Wrote: It's impossible to track from an IP address because geo locations aren't accurate. There are multiple ways to obtain someones full name, street address and even social security number just from an IP address alone. Don't bother commenting on a thread if you have no knowledge in the area. * - yesIamAbacon - May 26, 2016 (May 25, 2016 08:05 PM)Sɦadɛ Wrote: There are multiple ways to obtain someones full name, street address and even social security number just from an IP address alone. You're acting like you can obtain all that from an IP address, when in reality you would need to call up the ISP to get that stuff. * - Ρhoenix - May 26, 2016 (May 26, 2016 03:19 AM)yesIamAbacon Wrote: You're acting like you can obtain all that from an IP address, when in reality you would need to call up the ISP to get that stuff.No.. Like I said there are MULTIPLE ways of obtaining all that from just an IP address. You just need to know the proper methods and have the experience. Not sure why you're trying to tell correct me on something concerning a field that I've been dealing with for over four years. Like I told the previous member, don't bother trying to help in this section if you have no clue what you're talking about. * - 7 - May 26, 2016 If i was new to the forum with this problem, I would be glad to be assisted by Sɦadɛ -- Sometimes people need to back down on shit they know nothing about. Keep up the good work Sɦadɛ * - Cimex - May 26, 2016 (May 26, 2016 03:19 AM)yesIamAbacon Wrote: You're acting like you can obtain all that from an IP address, when in reality you would need to call up the ISP to get that stuff. Right okay, and so the end result is you still get the information from a starting point (IP address only in this case), therefore still is a method in getting that information. The OP didn't ask for a "Type IP in this program and an address pops up" if shit was that simple then jeez, hit me up. Edit: Possible I know, but not really publicly availably, more secretive 🤝 |
