Searching for a good Auto Update system - AspectModding - May 27, 2016

Hello there HF, I am looking for a decent auto update system, which detects the update
deletes the old exe
download the new exe
and then re opens the exe on the new version.

Right now(shameful to say)the one I'm uses it detects the version from a basic html page and if it don't match version number it will popup with a download.

I have looked at SharpUpdate which as everything I need but once you downloaded the new exe for some odd reason in the new exe it stops working. It does pop up with an update but fails to download.

Anyways back on the subject, is it any other good update system which does what I'm looking for. :)

Make a second app that checks for updates, if a update is found, download the update, kill the main app, replace the main app with the updated app, run the updated app and if necessary (not same name) add it to startup or whatever you want.

There's N examples on this forum, let alone google.

Im doing exactly like you said, its the best option for me. At work, in Business software we have the same system.

Instead of html page, why not make some web API for versioning?? and the info of current version can be saved in a config file instead of hard coded?
