So a user recommended me this a while back, and it's working great.

Simple download minergate - create an account and hit smart miner or start mining a currency like Ethereum!
Smart miner will automatically mine the coin with the best rates but I would recommend sticking to Ethereum as you will hopefully make more in the long run -
The price of Ethereum went up $1 over the last 24 hours.
You can choose to mine with your CPU or your GPU - It's really easy to set up and run and you can definitely still game/use your computer quite easily with it running.

Even on a budget PC it works alright in the background.

Why not? Half of HF live with their parents who pay the power anyway, most of them leave their PC running 24/7 too - might as well take advantage of it while they can :)
