Aired: Oct 3, 1982 - Jun 26, 1983 Source: http://myanimelist.net/anime/1088/Macross?q=macr I only watched Robotech, so therefore my opinion will be focused on that specifically, as it was adapted from Macross (however I do plan to watch the original Macross in the future). I watched this when I was younger and was one of my first anime (also one of my first video games on the PS2), however I was able to rewatch it a few years ago. This was made roughly within the era of the whole mecha/sci-fi craze of the 70s/80s, however nevertheless it does stand out as a solid anime and for some I'd even argue its underappreciated for its time. While some characters may seem cheesy (many of the anime in this time do), the story and progression stay fairly consistent and definitely helped solidify the sci-fi scene in anime. I believe this anime also came out roughly a few years after the first Gundam, however despite the same genre this anime includes a more involved romance with the main characters. Overall, many things come together right to make this an anime worth watching. As stated above I have not seen Macross, however assuming its as good or even better than Robotech I would highly recommend that you guys give it a go (although I know many of you prefer newer anime) ;) * - Gladly - Jun 13, 2016 Been meaning to watch Macross for a long time, haven't had the chance though. Plus, the fact that the art throws me off, the shading on the cels (or lack of shading) is really odd. * - Lawful Evil - Jun 13, 2016 Macross is the better of the 2 imo. I watched Robotech when it aired in the U.S. as a kid in the 80's. If your a fan of the series I would suggest Macross: Do You Remember Love? Its a retelling of the story with a few changes. Animation is different. There is a semi-decent english dub around if you can find it, also a really bad fan dub iirc. When I got back into anime to watch with my kids I was shocked that the Macross universe was still expanding. * - DerMensch24 - Jun 13, 2016 (Jun 13, 2016 07:39 PM)Lawful Evil Wrote: Macross is the better of the 2 imo. Will look into it :3 And ye, lot of popular anime always tend to have dozens of spin offs or even worse smaller "side-story" anime that try to prick at all the decent anime until everyone gets sick of them. However, sometimes the newer ones hold onto the same magic as the original and manage through |
