Wiping my computer... - LFCooledWhip - Jul 11, 2016 I have had my custom built rig for about a year soon and a lot of people have said they recommend wiping your computer every 6 months or every year just to full wipe any malware or whatever. I plan on trying that but I first wanted to know if there is a way to copy a google chrome file or something that holds some autofill data or saved password hashes I have. I already copied over some programs I want to download again as well as some music and pics. Thanks * - oParoxysm - Jul 11, 2016 All that data is automatically saved to your Google account if you're logged in via the browser. Make sure to login to your Google account in the browser, then go into your settings in the browser and sync your data. * - webdev77 - Jul 11, 2016 Sign in to Chrome and then sync all your data. That way, you can just log in to Chrome on any computer and have all your Chrome data saved. * - muroseu - Jul 13, 2016 The location where Chrome stores user data? Default Locations: Windows XP C:\Documents and Settings\%USERNAME%\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default Windows 10 / 8 / 7 / Vista C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default Mac OS X ~/Library/Application Support/Google/Chrome/Default Linux ~/.config/google-chrome/Default Chrome OS /home/chronos/ Cache Directory The cache directory follows the XDG specs: $XDG_CACHE_HOME/google-chrome, which defaults to ~/.cache/google-chrome If you pass --user-data-dir=/path/to/foo, the cache will be under /path/to/foo. * - MorrisC - Jul 13, 2016 Why would you wipe your computer every 6 months if you have common sense and are able to use the internet without getting a virus? * - muroseu - Jul 13, 2016 (Jul 13, 2016 02:30 AM)MorrisC Wrote: Why would you wipe your computer every 6 months if you have common sense and are able to use the internet without getting a virus? In case your computer will not start. In case the system doesn’t start due to registry errors or has a black screen, instead of trying to repair, it is sometimes easier to format. Your hard drive is full. When the hard drive is filled with a lot of files, after several months or even few years of working on the same computer, a user might find that the hard disk has become cluttered and there is no space to add any more files. This mostly happens to individuals who are not aware that computer maintenance exists. Too many errors. If there are a lot of errors and virus problems in the system, this problem is taken to be the main reason as to why any computer user thinks about formatting. To upgrade your system.. Your computer is running slow.. etc... Let the op do what he wants to do :) * - LFCooledWhip - Jul 13, 2016 It's very common to wipe your computer every six months to a year. And don't even start with that stupid common sense bullsh**. Think about it, there are so many powerful computer programs and hackers, viruses all over the place and you really trust your virus protection program? I don't. Just recently the TWITTER CEO, GOT HACKED. Thanks mureosou. Do I copy it from the directory on my PC or like the others said it will transfer over from sync data on google chrome? Google sync syncs your: Apps Autofills Bookmarks Extensions History Passwords Settings Themes Open Tabs So if you would like to safe "everything" Enable Google Sync and safe your Default folder to your usb or into a cloud service like dropbox. |
