Which Ubuntu version is better as base OS ? Ubuntu 14.04 or 16.04 - Aakash_Choudhary - Jul 11, 2016 Actually i have both iso file 1. 14.04 i386 2. 16.04 amd64 Which version should i install ? I want to install Ubuntu as main os Thanks * - Ahri - Jul 11, 2016 Non stop being poor and upgrade to Windows 10. * - ΛθƉ - Jul 12, 2016 They are both LTS versions so it comes down really to a matter of preferance. I havn't used 16.04 yet, but If stability is your main conern stick wit 14.04 as it has been well documented and tested with * - UnoriginalPirateMaterial - Jul 13, 2016 Personally I'd go for the more stable version. That said always worth firing up a VM and trying out a new distro to see if it tickles your fancy * - xab23 - Jul 20, 2016 Personally i always suggest the latest version -1 with ubuntu so you dont get buggy stuff. Btw if its for server enviroment stick with debian 7. Solid rock * - thewabbit - Jul 20, 2016 (Jul 11, 2016 10:53 PM)Aakash_Choudhary Wrote: 1. 14.04 i386why not both amd64 lol dont get i386 for either if you have a 64 bit processor. just want stable? 14.04 want new and cooler technology? 16.04 id get 16.04 * - mec - Jul 29, 2016 i had tons of problems with 14. so i upgraded to 16 and now everything runs so much better * - Jаson - Jul 29, 2016 I would go with 16.04 since it's a LTS version, but I would install the XFCE flavor instead of using bloated unity and gnome3 http://xubuntu.org/ * - Zorori - Aug 6, 2016 It all depends if you use AMD or not, the newer 16.xx dropped support for flgrx completely and the new drivers arent friendly with most cards before the rx 480. So if youre an AMD user stick with lower version if not yes go to 16.04 and then 16.10 it's really smooth. * - P0ker - Aug 6, 2016 Yeah I'd give a shot to 16.04, I had tons of problems with 14.04. and I'd pick a gnome flavor to be honest or maybe even Xubuntu. * - Aakash_Choudhary - Aug 6, 2016 (Aug 6, 2016 09:05 PM)P0ker Wrote: Yeah I'd give a shot to 16.04, I had tons of problems with 14.04. and I'd pick a gnome flavor to be honest or maybe even Xubuntu. I am getting problem related to vmware. Can't run vmware in ubuntu 16.04 * - KernelCrasher - Aug 7, 2016 14.04 was release in April 2014, why would you want something that old. 14(year).04(month) i would really recommend you try this project, its easy, it looks nice, and it doesn't have a version number to confuse you it's rolling: https://antergos.com/ it's based on arch and i will not include any cancer unlike ubuntu. * - krlo-s - Aug 17, 2016 I have installed Ubuntu 16.04, however i would recomend version 14.04 over 16.04 because 16.04 is sometimes unstable plus i have had compatibility issues like Intel OpenCL drivers which aren't developed for 16.04. |
