Among the many romance anime I have watched, this one earns a special spot for its uniqueness. What initially seems to be treated to us as simple fan service and cheap dialogue quickly divulges into a more serious, complex plot with hints of wit/humor centered around the life of a traveling merchant and his sudden traveling companion. The story focuses heavily on the ideas of trade during what we can assume to be the Medieval period with historical relevance to Church influence, etc., and often goes very thoroughly into economic theory and practice. I often found myself being more educated about the inner workings of being a merchant at the time in an intriguing way. The story also makes great use of arcs within the anime and there is a smooth transition for each despite only being ~12/13 eps each season.

However, the most meritorious factor in this anime is the chemistry between the two main characters. Most often I find that many anime attempt to create romance by "love at first sight" or "all the girls go for one guy," and other cliche devices. Yet, Spice and Wolf defy that and develop a genuine relationship where there is a mutual feeling and understanding for one another. I don't wish to say more other than that for the sake of not spoiling anything. Overall I found this to be a great anime and would recommend to anyone else seeking an interesting romance anime.

This was a great anime - one of my favorites.

Though I admit, the ending did make me want to see more adventures between the two main characters.

My favourite anime that has always left me cock teased until the very end.

Gladly the type of kid not to like this, everyone make fun of him.

I always do a search on the site before making a new thread to see if there is a similar thread, but if they don't meet the criteria for these posts I make one. The thread I am seeing that just got rebooted has "Spice of Wolf" rather than "Spice and Wolf" which is probs why I didn't notice it. But ye, I was amazed how well done it was, definitely a good watch.
