One of the notable 1980s works of Toyoo Ashida, Vampire Hunter D was one of the early examples of anime that exploded in the global market (before Akira or Ghost in the Shell debuted). In terms of the story, it is original for its specific concept, however it can be hard to follow at times and does the cliche damsel-in-distress plot. The progression tends to switch between quick, action packed fights and then to (somewhat) dragged out dialogue between characters. The film does (for anyone who remembers) reminisce with the classic game Castlevania.

The art for its time was decently done, very dark but well enough, nothing too notable but still watchable. The soundtrack wasn't noteworthy, however it sufficed for the film and didn't hinder the experience. Character wise none are very noteworthy as many fill archetypal roles, however the only exception being the MC, who is undeniably a badass. Overall this is an average anime, but nevertheless a good watch. I would encourage you all to give it a shot, especially those who are into the vampire genre or those who have a preference for classic anime.

There was a little bit of it here and there ye. Its more frequent in the newer film however. I did find the newer film more appealing than this one, however I think that was due to watching this film before the newer one as to appreciate how much they "fixed it up" so to speak.
