Kind gesture made my day - halloweirdo - Oct 10, 2016

I am a rookie officer, graduated from the academy less than a year ago. For now I work graves, calling in-service at 2300 and getting off at 0900. Most of the night was uneventful, just suspicious person(s) calls and a domestic dispute. Nothing really major, especially for a Monday. Monday's tend to be pretty jam-packed with calls. At around 0700 I had to evict a family from their home, keep in mind they had small children. I felt absolutely terrible. A family struggling, now homeless. It comes with the job I guess. Then about 40 minutes to shift-end I had to respond to one of the two high schools in my jurisdiction and bring in a social worker for a young kid under 10 years old who the school suspected of being the victim of abuse. The child was brought into state custody until they could determine the child was safe. The little kid just bawled and cried she wanted her parents. To end my day off with that, it just sucked. I walk into our local coffee place to grab something to eat and an Italian soda and one person starts clapping and then the entire shop breaks out in applause. At first, I was like, am I being set-up by my supervisors? Being the rookie and all, you can't trust anyone. Nearly everyone in that coffee shop thanked me for my service and told me they backed me. I got hugs and high fives and hand shakes. It made my day to feel I was appreciated. My week. My month. It just felt good to know that our work doesn't go un-noticed. The shop sent me back to the office with a bunch of different pastries to share with the office. I can't thank these people enough, they picked up my spirits and really got my head out of the gutter.

Thats really nice too see, what department or agency are you? Im a police explorer for the la county sheriffs, also arent you suppose to ride with a partner and once you get off training you can go on your own patrols?

My field training was 12 weeks post-academy. Once I "passed" and they deemed me worthy of going solo, I got my own patrol car. I am on probation for 1 year as of my academy graduation date still, which means minor screw-ups are big ones.

Thank you for protecting your city man. Some people still like cops, myself included. Even if I have ran into many..not so nice..officers.

And as an explorer, hold your integrity high. This field is getting more and more dangerous every day. Our brothers and sisters (yourself included) are targets. Never give up the fight and when evil comes knocking, be prepared. I can answer any questions you may have. I actually run an organization for cops called 'Enough is Enough' and we're on Facebook. Shoot the page a message sometime.
