Communicating with external program? - SIM-964740 - Oct 11, 2016 So for my little project I want to try out I want to know what the best method would be to use. In the most simple way of explaining, I want to press a button on my application and have that instigate an action on another device (instance of the application). I have in the past in vb.net used FTP to do what I needed but is the the most resource friendly way of doing it? I want to minimise data (internet) and processing usage. * - Zilog80 - Oct 11, 2016 - Windows Communication Foundation (WCF) - SQL Server / MySQL - app "A" upload content to web site. App "B" polling for web content. There are a lot of ways. Your description is a bit vague. More info would be nice. * - SIM-964740 - Oct 11, 2016 (Oct 11, 2016 05:05 AM)Zilog80 Wrote: - Windows Communication Foundation (WCF) I am doing MySQL now, I was asking for the most efficient way to do it though. * - 6e756c6c - Oct 11, 2016 Well, is this application suppose to work across separate computers or always on the same machine? * - Ninja - Oct 11, 2016 I think OP is making a RAT of some sorts. He wants to run functions on other computers, minimize data usage, so I am pretty sure its a RAT he is making. * - SIM-964740 - Oct 11, 2016 (Oct 11, 2016 06:47 AM)Ninja Wrote: I think OP is making a RAT of some sorts. I am making an application that will communicate from one device such as a mobile device to my desktop to issue commands and send messages. Yeah, I guess you could say it has functions that a RAT may have but it aint no RAT. Spoiler (Click to View) * - Ninja - Oct 11, 2016 (Oct 11, 2016 07:01 AM)Selcouth Wrote: You Sir are wrong. Usually people make RATs and stuff so it was an impulse. * - ๖ۣۜOptimal - Oct 11, 2016 Use mysql for programs that have this sort of function. * - SIM-964740 - Oct 11, 2016 (Oct 11, 2016 07:14 AM)๖ۣۜOptimal Wrote: Use mysql for programs that have this sort of function. Alright, cool. That means I am on the right path. I thought it would be best but also played around the the idea of using sockets but it seemed far to complicated for what I need. One of my other thoughts is to make my application more secure, for learning sake, by hosting all the SQL queries on my website hosting so the database credentials would be harder to retrieve by malicious users. * - Zilog80 - Oct 11, 2016 (Oct 11, 2016 07:01 AM)Selcouth Wrote: I am making an application that will communicate from one device such as a mobile device to my desktop to issue commands and send messages. Maybe is not the same scenario but I have and Android App that share clipboard with Windows Desktop PC. You can "paste" Android clipboard to Windows PC and vice versa, you can "paste" Windows PC clipboard into Android device. I did this using UDP sockets. Really simple to code. * - SIM-964740 - Oct 11, 2016 (Oct 11, 2016 11:20 AM)Zilog80 Wrote: Maybe is not the same scenario but I have and Android App that share clipboard with Windows Desktop PC. That actually sounds really cool man. I'll have a look into how to use UDP Sockets too. * - 0xDEAD10CC - Oct 11, 2016 Look into remote procedure calls (RPC). You can even do RPC over HTTP(S) https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/aa375384(v=vs.85).aspx |
