The difference in the words of the two terms should be a dead giveaway regarding how they're different, but I guess not everyone is "smart" enough to notice that. By shell injection, I'm assuming you mean being able to inject shell commands. Put simply, shell injection lets you execute commands, SQL injection lets you execute SQL queries.
