I know you're not allowed to have less than 4 visible characters and you're not allowed to use the characters to impersonate other members. What if the member is closed or banned does it still count as impersonating them?

If they are permanently banned then there should be nothing wrong (as the name pretty much becomes "available" again), however I think it's different for temp-banned members.

I know it will never happen but it would make life so much easier if perm banned users names were changed to their UID or Null or something.🤝

I don't see it happening either but it would be great, would surely decrease the use of strange characters you see around the forum. Then those members can finally take the normally written version of their desired username.

I have the username of a member here who got closed in 2009
Pmed Omni the invisible character I used (so it can get blocked) and also asked if i could keep the name and i still have it so i guess hes ok with it.

So you used a special character to get the name you wanted, then reported the special character you used so no one else can use it.....

So any staff gonna reply is it allowed or not I don't wanna get in trouble for it but there's a name I really want and the guys been closed from 2013 from as far as I can tell, he made 10 posts 8 of which he was asking for links on free products 🤣

I use a special character and not an invisible one as the one I want to use is closed since ages. I tried to ask him a while ago if it'd be possible to have that username and I was told no, although I do understand why he has done so.
Would like Staff's input on this as well.

Well I've changed my name for now it's one of my fav movies and some closed account from 2013 stole the name. 🤝
Considering loads of others have done the same I presume it's okay I've found so many users now that have done the same thing so I presume it's a well known thing.

I don't think this counts as impersonating anybody nor will you be associated with the previous member who held the name before you.

What I'd really love is Judge Dredd but as we all know that's the username of the ex staff member so I don't wanna fuck with that even though he's close to getting closed almost inactive for a year.

If they were banned 3+ years ago, I don't think you really have to worry about anything.
