2015 Hackforums Marketplace Statistics - Who Soup - Nov 22, 2016

Hey guys, I just wanted to share some interesting facts I've found while selling a lot of items here on HF. All facts shared were obtained through my own sales and the hopes of this thread is to hopefully boost sales for everyone. And as a note this data is complied from 2014 - 2015 as that is where I was most active on sales.
  • Most sales occur in the middle of the week

  • Most people who buy products/services on HF have an offline source of income

  • If it's not successful in the first 3 days it's probably not going to work out

  • People prefer unique products/services opposed to "improvements" on previously existing products.

  • It is definitely possible to make a living from sales just from HF alone.

  • The average age of people who purchased items were 19

  • Premium sellers section targets mostly ubers

  • Secondary sellers section mainly targets Regular members and Leet

  • Paypal was actually relatively safe to use as a payment processor

  • Most people preferred Paypal opposed to bitcoin

  • People are willing to drop a lot of money; the largest single transaction I have done on here was $720

  • About 50% of sales were outside of the US (I sold physical products)

  • More sales were obtained while displaying "Uber" other than a custom userbar.

  • All members regardless of upgrades had a similar scam ratio.

I encourage all to get involved in the marketplace, It's a really good way to earn extra money and to learn how to start a business from nothing and watch it develop into something that is thriving.

I think this share would be more useful if you included the dataset from which you came to these conclusions.

Such a great post. Thanks for the share and encouragement.
I'm currently working on my account and seeking projects before I enter the marketplace.

From experience in digital goods I saw similarities but a lot of them, for me, were complete opposite. Interesting but really just comes down to your target market

Is this from your view of point or are there stats to back up the above?

All of these statistics were gathered through previous sales data. It does break down a lot more but I think this is good for now. I might try to ask people who sell things in the marketplace to keep me updated on their sales in return everyone who contributes will get in depth market analysis.
