[Suggestion] Auto-make HF thread URL's to the name of the thread - Mαxim - Dec 6, 2016 The Idea When you post a thread, you have your link "https://hackforums.net/showthread.php?tid=5382950" with its own thread number. This thread is just a random one, it's Vitani's stickied thread in this section. So when you post the link in a thread or post it appears like this: https://hackforums.net/showthread.php?tid=5382950 Right? So here is the Idea, what if when you post any thread link, it will not appear as the URL but as the name of the thread. So instead of above, it would appear like this: https://hackforums.net/showthread.php?tid=5382950 [2016] Previously Denied Suggestions [REFERENCE] or [2016] Previously Denied Suggestions [REFERENCE] (Thread-ID: 5382950) So instead of having to use the [URL]-tags, it appears right away as that. Why? If you have for instance someone making a long Deal Dispute thread or a thread like Vitani's that is linked above, this can be handy. You can choose to enable this feature or not in your User CP, so if you don't want to have this enabled, you don't need to. I am not knowledged with that, hopefully you are correct, thanks for the input. Cheers. * - Trump_Clinton - Dec 6, 2016 As someone whose still learning what tags do and how to use them i think this is a solid idea and makes a lot of sense if its something that could be implemented easily. * - Mαxim - Dec 7, 2016 (Dec 6, 2016 09:30 PM)Yani Wrote: snip Cheers bud, but I am not interested in userscripts. Making this suggestion towards HF. * - Goodies - Dec 7, 2016 I like the idea; it works great on SO, but this might not be enough of a reason to justify a large increase in DB queries. * - Frankey - Dec 7, 2016 Looks like a good suggest. Will remove tons of problems for me. * - 2073436 - Dec 7, 2016 Good idea. I can agree on this being handy. Maybe not handy enough to put on the servers since there may be extra lagg. Not sure, Omniscient will know/tell. * - Yakless - Dec 7, 2016 I completely support this unless it'll have (noticeable) negative effects on the site performance * - wander is a multi dwc - Dec 7, 2016 If I were to make two threads with the same thread title but with different body content, how would MyBB discern between these two threads? If one doesn't notice the post author or instead believes a falsified statement, this can lead to unnecessary issues. * - Tʀᴀᴜᴍᴀ - Dec 7, 2016 What if two people have the thread title "LOL"? * - Drug Problems - Dec 7, 2016 Personally I do not believe that this is worth it. It would also mess up the clover award, I would assume as it marks the thread ID. Really there is no beneficial outcome from this and could cause problems with myBB as stated above. * - Mαxim - Dec 7, 2016 Thanks for the input guys. Never would have thought that such a lil thing would cause such a big problem. Leaving this suggestion up to see where it goes. If more knowledged people want to comment regarding the database thing, please do. Updated the suggestion aswell, so that the generated named URL will also display the thread ID on the side. * - Punisher - Dec 7, 2016 (Dec 7, 2016 09:08 AM)Drug Problems Wrote: Personally I do not believe that this is worth it. The clover award URLs are generated in HTML, not MyBB Code. This could not affect the clover award in any way, nor would it break anything. This is a great suggestion OP, however I believe a new MyBB tag would be better. Example; [thread]5382950[/thread] would generate [2016] Previously Denied Suggestions [REFERENCE] (Thread-ID: 5382950) * - Drug Problems - Dec 7, 2016 (Dec 7, 2016 11:36 AM)Error Wrote: The clover award URLs are generated in HTML, not MyBB Code. Mhm thank you for clearing that up. I thought it used MyBB. I guess this isn't that bad of an idea then. I still find it some what useless but thats just me. * - Cammy - Dec 7, 2016 HFES already does this HF Enhancement Suite - 2 years strong - Making life easier for thousands of HF users! by Emylbus |
