Possible infection, posting for friend. - LittleBobbyTables - Dec 13, 2016 I don't think my friend is on here, so I'm posting for him. He recently got hacked, and I'm having him run Malwarebytes and a Windows Defender scan right now (it's decent in W10). Don't know what to check from here, though. * - ka$h - Dec 13, 2016 If it's a possible infection, do you know possibly from what? and what is causing that suspicion, like did you see something abnormal hap[pen? * - LittleBobbyTables - Dec 13, 2016 (Dec 13, 2016 03:11 PM)Ka$h Wrote: If it's a possible infection, do you know possibly from what? and what is causing that suspicion, like did you see something abnormal hap[pen? He mentioned he hasn't downloaded anything (no wifi, has to use all mobile data, so it's fairly believable). If anything it'd have been some ad. Biggest suspicion is his RuneScape account + bank pin getting hacked. Other things have been crashing (browsers and some other apps). Running a little slow, as well. * - ka$h - Dec 13, 2016 (Dec 13, 2016 03:27 PM)LittleBobbyTables Wrote: He mentioned he hasn't downloaded anything (no wifi, has to use all mobile data, so it's fairly believable). Based off that I would say he isn't really infected (not ruling it out though); having things crash could simply be due to his resource usage, so tell him to look at his task manager/resource monitor especially when it does crash, mainly could be RAM or CPU. If his PC is old then it's likely, and if you believe it may be due to ads then I would suggest using an ad blocker from here on and scanning his PC with Malwarebytes AdwCleaner (and Junk Removal Tool if you wish). AdwCleaner should remove any PUP that might have found its way on his PC from ads which could definitely link to the crashes he is experiencing. Other things off the top of my head that might help with crashes would simply be to rid your PC of junk, for that I would recommend CCleaner. But yea, by the sounds of it I wouldn't conclude that he is infected. :) |
