Make your system - RASPBERRY PI - a bit more secure![Tutorial] No more bruteforce - slober - Dec 17, 2016 Make your system - RASPBERRY PI - a bit more secure! IoT is awesome! Code FailIP.txtDue to the increasing number of connected devices the number of Bots and crawlers are also increasing. which can and will! result in your server being attacked sooner or later. Code 44926 116.31.116.2844 926 Failed login Attempts from this guy! Let's fix this! First of all you should check if you are being attacked or something like that you could do this with this script: If it looks nasty you should keep reading. ✌ We'll use the tool Fail2Ban to secure our system www.fail2ban.org Wrote:Fail2ban scans log files (e.g. /var/log/apache/error_log) and bans IPs that show the malicious signs -- too many password failures, seeking for exploits, etc. Generally Fail2Ban is then used to update firewall rules to reject the IP addresses for a specified amount of time, although any arbitrary other action (e.g. sending an email) could also be configured. Out of the box Fail2Ban comes with filters for various services (apache, courier, ssh, etc). Code sudo apt-get install fail2banAfter this you're pretty much done but there are some extras you could do. goto /etc/fail2ban/jail.conf Code sudo nano /etc/fail2ban/jail.conffind the line [ssh] or another service [YOUR_SERVICE] you wish to change. Code banaction = iptables-allportsAfter this you just need to restart the server: Code sudo service fail2ban restartSome usefull commands Code # View all banned ip'sNow we're at least a little bit safer! Code target prot opt source destination* - ๖ۣۜAnubis - Dec 17, 2016 Nice thread. Thanks for making a tutorial on this. * - webdev77 - Dec 17, 2016 While I am assuming you mean for this to be used on a Raspberry Pi, you should probably explain that since a lot of people here won't get what this means. * - slober - Dec 17, 2016 (Dec 17, 2016 02:06 PM)webdev77 Wrote: While I am assuming you mean for this to be used on a Raspberry Pi, you should probably explain that since a lot of people here won't get what this means. Like this? 🙂 I've added it to the title. also added general description of fail2ban. this should clear up some of the confusion. Thx! |
