Making a hacking usb drive - FinnTheHuman - Dec 24, 2016

I have been trying to install linux on a usb drive to use for hacking, and I have failed numerous times.

I can make a bootable(obviously), but I want to install the OS on the usb drive, so that way I have a portable OS i can carry around.

If anyone is good with partitioning and this kind of stuff, please pm me or help me out.

Thanks in advance.

But it's a live disk, why do you want to "install" it?

Because with a live disk, the os is formatted each time I boot into it, stipulating all my files to be deleted, also I am limited to a 4gb memory capacity even though I have the disk located on a 128gb usb drive.

Uh, there are some Live OSs out there (which you don't want, but some do save the files) but most OSs like Ubuntu, Debian and many others don't support portable carriage. If you're using it on a USB regardless it would be rather stupid as simply moving it around could cause parts of the OS to fail and file uploads that the OS does to be interrupted.

I am aware of this. Your post did nothing to contribute to the thread.

Let me rephrase:

https :// www .quora. com/Can-I-install-programs-and-save-files-with-Ubuntu-on-a-flash-drive

Also let me add on that you can make a separate partition that hold files, but doesn't get reformatted.

Damn with that kind of attitude no one should help you with what you need, because it seems like all you're going to do is act like an asshole.

That was a great help, thanks.

Look up a guide on how to make a Linux bootable USB with persistence.

Oh and post a question like this in the Linux section if you want better answers, this doesn't really have anything to do with hacking.
