Anyone Link Me To A Good Tut On Installing Windows On An External HDD?

New Mac user (MacBook Pro, 13-Inch, Retina, 2015) and i need to run visual studio so i can code in visual basic for my college work. Ive had a look round and struggling to find decent tutorial on how to install Windows onto my eternal HDD to save partitioning my macs SSD as its only 128GB.

If anyone has done it themselves let me know how easy it is to mess up and your experience doing it.

I am in the same position as you. I currently use VMware and have it saved on my external hard drive. Check with your college and see if they have a dreamspark subscription with microsoft. If they do you can get free copies of windows and in my case I got VMware/windows for free completely legally. But if you are just using VS, I would just go with VMware because it's super easy to install/use and you can switch back to your mac super quickly. No need to partition or anything.

It took me hours to find an up to date tutorial that worked so if anyone is in the same boat as me, i followed this tut start to finish and it worked great https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g77iw6hl2GU

It's very uncommon issue and the solution is also not too simple as this external install will most likely only work with the same computer its been made on or similar due to different hardware drivers.. Basically it will bluescreen if you try to boot it in other machine... The best option is to use VM imo. You can save vm and run it on any machine.

Thank you for this thread, was wondering the same exact thing.

I am currently using the newest MacBook Pro, I run VM's and a 2nd installation of Mac OS on my external drive, now I'd like windows too.

Your welcome man, thinking about creating my own tut because there was very little online.
