Large pictures forced to be put in spoiler - Flared - Jan 6, 2017

As most people on mobile especially know, when there is a big ass picture without a spoiler, it makes your screen wide as hell to adjust to the picture, and the rest of the replies are very small and hard to read because of it.

This also applies for desktop users, because nobody likes when a picture is too big and takes up the whole screen.

This would be incredibly easy to implement, given that it is already a feature when putting in a signature.

How this would work is, when you try to upload a picture that is very wide it gives you an error similar to this, but instead of forcing you to resize, you are required to add a spoiler.

Implementing this would clean up threads a ton, and make them more appealing to view when scrolling through a thread.

I'm iffy on this suggestion, for starters what would you consider a "large image"? People have different sized monitors.

This would also ruin the effect and purpose of thread designs for products.

I like the error idea if it's too big, not quite sure about the spoiler though.

this effects the width of a picture, not the length. 99% of thread designs don't go horizontally so that wouldn't affect them

If you're limiting the dimensional size of images, you'd have to set a limit horizontally and vertically, otherwise it wouldn't work and would simply confuse users.

What would you consider too large horizontally? This may work better as a userscript, which I would send you over to xadamkx for that.

I like to make rather large thread designs, which sometimes encompasses the entire page, horizontally, too.

Oh and not only that, but the signature limiter was built into MyBB, I'm not sure how easy it would be to mimic it but have it check every post, on every thread.

i like this idea

images bigger than a certain resolution should be put in spoilers

The code that would check the width of an image, or even compare it to the 100% width of your screen
is not that much work to write and implement, however the query checking the image size(s) would appear
substantially more often than the one checking the signature size, since statistically speaking, people add one or more
images to their thread way more often than they change their signature.

It could require more server resources which makes it a no-go.
On top of that, images exceeding a standard width, appearing outside of the HF template, are rare.
I see them now and then, but not often enough to invest server resources in warning people posting them.

The signature image resizer does kink at times. Now imagine people being unable to post because of a silly error.

Ahh. I see where you're coming from, but I doubt the servers wouldn't be able to run something as small as this. I'm sure he has way more power implemented that would be able to fit addons like this.

This would also effect people who use graphics as thread designs.

hmm. I've never personally had a problem with the signature part, but if other people are having it pretty frequently, then I would understand why this wouldn't work
