Form loading and theme efficiency? - _UnderDog - Feb 2, 2017 So right now I am close to finishing off a program I am coding. I have noticed when I use controls from a theme (link: hackforums.net/showthread.php?tid=3559385) when loading the controls start white then appear, and when resizing with anchors the controls (such as buttons/textboxes) will freeze, update and freeze again instead of resizing fluently with the main form. Is there any way of preventing or minimising this? * - hfTP54 - Feb 2, 2017 Well, GDI+ is not known to be super fast, check if double buffering is enabled for all of the controls. Are you using a ton of controls on a single form? If you are not willing to delve into the inner code of the theme then not much can be done otherwise there may be undisposed objects/slow methods etc. * - iNCEPTiON_V - Feb 2, 2017 Disclaimer: I have nothing against WindowsForms but if you want to Design into infinity use WPF. You literally just right click on a Control and create a Style that you then can style into infinity :) Because DirectX > GDI :) I'm not trying to start a Fanboy War here, but I've worked with Forms in the past till the Senior Dev Opened my eyes into a New Universe called WPF (compare it to Mankind's discovery of Fire) :) Ok enough before i get buried alive here :) You won't regret it believe me. * - Zilog80 - Feb 2, 2017 (Feb 2, 2017 12:15 PM)iNCEPTiON_V Wrote: Disclaimer: I have nothing against WindowsForms but if you want to Design into infinity use WPF. +1000 WPF is 'the way' * - _UnderDog - Feb 2, 2017 I will check for double buffering and undisposed objects (I'm sure all of them do dispose). Also, I do not know much about WPF but from doing a quick research, it sounds promising. Thank you for both of your help. |
