Is accessing HF from a VPN with a proxy pass on your home network allowed? - RogueAgent - Feb 4, 2017

Just wondering if it'd be allowed to browse HF through an nginx proxy while away from home or on a VPN(granted, to make it work correctly some ssl trust and host file modifications are needed), but is it allowed?

Not recommended why? If you're on a VPN, other than switching it off, there's now way to access HF, this method simply proxies the traffic through a server on my home network with a nginx proxy. I don't see why it wouldn't be recommended.

Because of needing to access intranet resources, sometimes switching VPN's off simply isn't possible for some of us. Though in most cases, it's just an unhealthy tinfoil hat thing.

Someone here posted a method that like blocks your VPN on certain sites and uses your home IP so you wouldnt have to turn it off. Never heard of your setup so just wait for a response from someone with knowledge

There is no official policy against it but Hack Forums periodically bans VPNs and Proxies ergo you may not access the site and avail of its features. Hence, it is not recommended to use such procedure to access your Hack Forums account.

I've done this, and it works completely fine.
Just make sure you know what you're doing on the server, and make sure no one else can access it.

If you want to use a VPN while browsing HF I'd suggest reading this thread:

You obviously didn't read what OP is saying.

He is talking about setting up a VPN / Proxy on his home connection.

I believe most commercially available VPNs offer split tunneling features anyway.

It's fine.

I actually prefer your private VPN from your home network. It creates consistency on your account. There are no policies violated by doing this.

However, I recommend if you do create a home network VPN that you don't share it with other members. It can easily create a situation where you appear to have multiple accounts. So keep it private.
