Ethernet drivers? - phunted - Feb 9, 2017

My good friends having some troubles connecting his new PC via the internet if anyone could help that'd be hugely appreciated.

Specs:
-Core i5 6400
-Msi h110m gaming motherboard
-Running windows 8.1

He quoted " I have the driver cd, but can't use it because it doesn't have cd drive "

Any ideas on how he may go upon setting this up?

Always download and use drivers from the manufacturer support site. All you gotta' do is google the "mobo or laptop model" + "support." Then go to their drivers section after selecting the OS.

LAN drivers for that board; Win 8.1 64 bit: http://download.msi.com/dvr_exe/Intel_Network_skl.zip

Assuming he doesn't have any WiFi on the computer. Use a USB to transfer the drivers from a computer that already can access the internet to download the drivers datguy.dev said.

Yeah he needs to find access to another PC, I was thinking of downloading them onto a flash & giving him to them personally.

I don't think I understood the real issue here. 😁 I do understand that conundrum however. It is dumb how they'll include crappy WNIC drivers, but not LAN drivers with Windows. If were getting away from CDs and optical drives, that needs to change. But the fact remains, the file isn't going to magically appear on their PC.

They could use a public library computer and a USB drive. Ask a neighbor. It is possible to use a smart phone or tablet via USB. Though every phone I've owned requires a driver just to access it's storage. A lot of "ifs," but you could also try moving the driver file to a 2nd SD card used for additional storage and mount that using the PC with an SD card reader. Good luck! 👍
