Ah, Record of Lodoss War; an interesting and irritating anime simultaneously. Truly, the only real weak link in the overall composition of the anime is the plot, which is apparent from episode 1 until the end. Based off of the novels of the same name, this OVA had the unfortunate task of summarizing the several novels into 13 episodes. Hence, the sense of being "rushed" takes away from what this anime could have been. The art style is that of the early 90s/late 80 for those of you who dislike such animation, however it is still decent (it's Madhouse after all).
However, beyond those detractions, the anime holds merit for those who dwell in the fantasy realm. Magic (looking at you @Nine), Good vs. Evil, complex histories, persons and items intertwined; it very much resembles a Tolkien tale for the quest to stop Darkness. The characters themselves overall encompass the focal points of the show. While our MC is likable to some degree and there were a few that were purely comedic effect, the rest of the cast were developed nicely and were given their fair share in the series. Even the antagonists were developed as well to give a full view of the situation. There is plenty of 90s bloodshed as well. ;) The sound was also pleasant, especially the OP.
Overall, the plot makes it hard to follow the progression of time, but nevertheless it is a rather enjoyable anime and I recommend this to anyone of the fantasy genre or generally interested.

Looks pretty good, I will eventually get to it but the art is iffy to me.
It is the same situation for me with Clannad (those eyes damn)
