Is it better to just not reply or give a negative reply? - Grand Pootis - Apr 12, 2017

In your opinion is it better to just not reply or give a negative reply?

For example:

Someone replies to a thread where you were offering something for sale and you've just sold it. Is it better to just ignore their message or reply and say it's sold?

Someone on Facebook sends you a message asking if you want to hang out, and you don't want to or don't like the person. Should you reply or just ignore it?

(On HF) you post a thread asking for people to apply to do a job for you. Someone sends you an application that doesn't meet your criteria. Reply and say no or ignore it?

Personally, I always try to dignify the person with a reply unless it's an obvious troll. This sounds sappy, but I sometimes get a little pissed if I put in effort applying for something or making a proposition and can tell the person read it but couldn't make a one sentence reply.

I understand this is likely not the majority viewpoint

Just ignore everything it's the best solution.

Always reply, do you like being ignored?

You definitely don't lol😠

I try to reply when possible, because its more of a courtesy. It makes your business ethic seem a bit better. With that said, if people blatantly ignore what I say and PM me about something stupid I will ignore them. Time is money and if morons are wasting my time, I'm not making money.

Depends on the situation. I'd reply if someone asked me to hang out.
Just don't be aggressive or so.

I would recommend only replying if it is constructive to do so. For the most part the average Joe has a decently accurate guess on the outcome of a reply before they post it. Basically we all need to think before we post and really take into account if the outcome is worth it and if it is better to just take the high road.

Q: Someone on Facebook sends you a message asking if you want to hang out, and you don't want to or don't like the person. Should you reply or just ignore it?

A: I would say "Sorry, I have other plans.", and if they ask what my plans are I would be honest with a reply like "I'm taking a "me" day just going to be alone with some Netflix and surf the internet" and if they are not happy with your answer, at that point I would ignore there message because nothing constructive or positive will come from instigating an arguement

Q: (On HF) you post a thread asking for people to apply to do a job for you. Someone sends you an application that doesn't meet your criteria. Reply and say no or ignore it?

A: I would reply to them with a "Regret to inform you" styled reply. For one reason you don't want friction between you and that person in case of future encounters and its very professional to send out that type of message.

That was pretty straight forward and clean cut. No questions at all. 👍
