HF API Beta Released - Omniscient - Apr 21, 2017
Well, it's now live. Thanks goes to Meshcollider that started the coding and did 90% of the hard work on this.
The API is READ ONLY but plans to have WRITE access (posting and sending PMs) will be done in the future.
API is currently only for R3KT group members and API limit is 100 calls in an hour.
Please be aware, your API KEY can provide direct account view access. Do not share your key please. At this time keys cannot be used to alter accounts in any way so in that regard you are safe. But we have not written in high-end credentials so things like reading your PMs is possible simply with the API KEY.
All API calls are logged including the IP. Abuse of the API may lead to action against your account. So please, don't abuse.
If you find security bugs please PM me directly, but generally speaking regular output bugs and questions you are free to post in this thread.

All API ouput is in JSON format. The true intent of the API is for future mobile application use and development. By creating this API it is now possible to begin another layer of development for mobile apps. I hope that's as exciting for you to read as it is for me.
Eventually a developer will be able to create an app where you enter your API key and you'll have a functioning HF Mobile App. Because this is an API it means that ANYONE can essentially build applications not only for mobile but also desktops and even other websites. This opens up a HUGE range of things possible going forward.

Not immediately but it will be considered. I may also run this through a tunnel service which would allow for extra security as well as datacenter usage.
So the calls may actually go to randomurl.com/api.php then forwarded to HF through the tunnel that's whitelisted and results can be sent that way.
Honestly forgot about this problem for the API...ugh. It's fixable.

Sorry for the extra headache. The tunnel seems the easiest. It could even be like API.hackforums.net for simplicity or something.
