Perhaps the biggest crypto currency exchange site you can find online. Poloniex offers a wide variety of coins. However, it is popular among exchangers and traders for being laggy sometimes and giving people a hard time withdrawing.

ShapeShift is a company that offers global trading of a variety of digital assets via web and mobile platforms.

The company does not collect personal data on its customers and exchanges one cryptocurrency for another without ever collecting customer funds into company accounts, which is unique among digital currency trading companies. >>Source (ShapeShift Wikipedia).
Shapeshift doesn't have a built-in wallet like Poloniex but it's one of the most trusted and reputable crypto exchange sites out there. It offers quick and precise exchange options for whatever one that fits your needs.

So far, Bittrex has the biggest amount of coins available for exchange. It's a very trusted site and used by many exchangers daily. This is the go-to when Poloniex is down. Many P&D groups use this site to pump coins. Bittrex has a very beautiful graph view which many prefer over Poloniex.

Yunbi.com is one of the smaller and lesser known crypto exchange sites. This would only be recommended if you can't use all above sites for some reason. It offers SiaCoin, Ethereum Classic, ZCash, ETH and a few more coins. Yunbi doesn't have a wide-variety of coins but the website has a great layout and it's very smooth.

None of these are used to "buy" coins as many members ask, just exchange them to and from.

It's the same thing. "Buying" coins is basically exchanging from Bitcoin to other coins. You withdraw by converting back to BTC.

Polo doesn't have WAVES. I wanted to buy a few, where should I go?

I'm surprised Kraken is so far down the list. They've got a new charting/trading tool that is ultra sexy and a lot of fun to use.

Shapeshift is pretty good but the fees are very high. Exchanged ETH to BTC and lost $7 with the process.
