I don't know if this one was a hoax or not, I doubt it since it is the UK, but whenever I see someone say "What would be the point of having a hoax attack" I just want to punch them in the face. If you can't see the benefit of having fake attacks, you're a moron. (Being able to have people to blame, put fear in to citizens so that they fear other groups of people or things such as guns)

fake attacks are hands down the best way to give more power to the government
E.G taking away rights from citizens or increasing spying
and right now we are seeing a change in the way the UK is being governed (I'm not saying this attack was fake I know it's not)
