(Discussion) Maoyuu Maou Yuusha - DerMensch24 - Jun 4, 2017 Maoyuu Maou Yuusha ![]() Synopsis (Courtesy of MAL): Quote:Fifteen years have passed since the war between humans and demons began. Dissatisfied with their slow advance into the Demon Realm, the Hero abandons his companions to quickly forge ahead towards the Demon Queen's castle. Upon his arrival at the royal abode, the Hero makes a startling discovery: not only is the Demon Queen a woman of unparalleled beauty, but she also seeks the Hero's help. Confused by this unexpected turn of events, the Hero refuses to ally himself with his enemy, claiming that the war the demons have waged is tearing the Southern Nations apart. Eps: 12 Studio: Arms Aired: Jan 5, 2013 - Mar 30, 2013 Genre(s): Adventure, Demons, Fantasy, Historical, Romance Sub/Dub: Only sub as of 2017 Source: https://myanimelist.net/anime/14833/Maoyuu_Maou_Yuusha Trailer: Where to begin with this anime.... perhaps by stating that this is really only an average one; neither a gem of the modern age nor anything close to Hametsu no Mars. Many who have seen the anime Spice & Wolf will feel a similar vibe in the way that this anime attempts to portray itself. Where the anime does itself right is, similar to S&W, in terms of its historical and economic perspectives. Analyzing different techniques and then putting them into application over a period of time whilst explaining the socio-political changes is a lot to grasp, but I felt that this anime did a decent job of doing so. The story is also generally consistent and interesting. Art and music are also done well. My biggest qualm however was with the romance aspect that was originally portrayed as pivotal as the anime progressed. Yet, the anime concludes itself without any progress in that regard and what seems to be a poor attempt of a small harem situation. The anime also used its fantasy segment to create several Dues-ex-Machina moments, however those weren't as central to the plot as it is fantasy after all. The ending also leaves the viewer slightly confused, as it appears the anime sets itself up for a new major arc yet comes to a grinding halt in 12 short episodes. Whether or not it was an attempt to try to get a second season I am not sure, however I do believe it was a poor attempt to end the series. Overall, I'd give this a 6-7/10. That's not to say that it wasn't enjoyable while I watched it, however there were obvious holes in the story and development that stuck out, so I recommend this as an anime if you enjoy the historical/economic aspect of anime such as Spice & Wolf, but also want a quick anime to fly through just to kill some time. * - Agramon - Jun 5, 2017 I dropped this but I plan to pick it back up. From the two episodes Ive seen, he romance might be okay but idk. Seems a bit cringey though * - Cursed Power - Jun 7, 2017 (Jun 5, 2017 07:25 AM)Agramon Wrote: I dropped this but I plan to pick it back up.
