EA contacted me about my website - They want to sue me? - Roberto Scorpius Malfoy - Aug 5, 2017

Do you guys think this is for real or is someone trying to trick me?

What happens if i dont listen to them is it possible that they will sue me? And why the hell do i need to get permission from them if i wanna make a tournament?

Yeah, there is a possibility they will sue you & take down the website/domain.
I highly doubt someone is trying to trick you

* - eComrade - Aug 5, 2017

I would ask for some kind of proof that they are actually from EA.

I mean, if they are saying you violated their terms of service or what ever I am pretty positive they would just ban your ass ? I know it is a slightly different situation but a buddy of mine that DDOS's and does pack exploits on NHL has been banned many of times and they ban him than email. In my opinion I would say if you left it for months and didn't take down the site and continued as you were and there was no back lash or follow ups that it mite just be someone trolling you!! Not positive thou! Good luck and hopefully it is just a troll!

Well, you kinda missed that...

If they keep pursuing it would it be possible to re-brand your website? Like, keep the team names people are betting against playing, but just brand everything as "soccer"

I mean, you'd obviously take a user-base hit, but you might be in a better position to defend against legally.

I still don't know how they can enforce this. So, you have a website for betting on FIFA games. They say it breaks their terms of service, but, like, who's to say you even agreed to their ToS? lol
Maybe get one of those legal representation lawyers for shit like this. They're like $60 a year or something. You just forward all legal claims to them. I use one for my VPN services to handle DMCAs.

If you haven't received a follow-up in the form of a formal cease-and-desist I'd call this fake.
Lisa Chin is a real person though: https://www.linkedin.com/in/lisajchin

In the event that this is in fact real, it's likely not desirable for them to pursue legally as the amount they'd recover in "damages" would not exceed the legal fees required to do so.
