Linux Foundation Certified System Administrator | Worth it? - Mr. WAVES - Aug 24, 2017 Hi guys, I received an offer of $100 USD off Linux Foundation Certified System Administrator but before buying it, I would like to know if it worth the price/study. My guess is that it worth it because is the official certification. It would be my second certification after the official Introduction to Linux. I use Linux as my main system on my laptop and I managed multiple servers. Does this certification worth $200 USD? * - Marxist - Aug 24, 2017 I mean, are you looking into applying for jobs specifically working with *nix? If so it could help fluff up your resume and make you look better. Or make you look versitile dpending on the situation. It also shows that you're able to study for and pass a test, which some companies like. I'd say just for it, honestly. It would be a win-win as resume fluff. * - wadadli - Aug 25, 2017 (Aug 24, 2017 05:00 PM)Mr. WAVES Wrote: Hi guys, If you're asking if it's worth it, then it probably isn't, at least to you. Now slowly hand over the certificate, and no one gets hurt. Got it? 🎉 * - kawaii - Aug 25, 2017 It depends entirely where you're from. Here in Europe we don't place as much value in certifications as they do in the US - according to other professionals in my field. When I went for my first Linux job interview as a junior engineer/sysadmin I didn't have a single Linux related qualification, and I still don't after 4 years. The company cared more about my personal experience (i.e. what Linux related projects have you worked on?) as opposed to how much professional experience or certificates I had - keep in mind that working in this profession means that you are being hired as a problem solver more than anything, do you really need a certificate to Google dmesg output? ;) * - Rhako - Sep 8, 2017 Can you learn from the course, or do you already know and understand everything it's going to teach you? My personal opinion is that if you can learn a lot from it, do it. The cert is just an added bonus. * - Targus - Sep 9, 2017 Usually not worth it. Having a certificate is normally an optional thing, since what matters most is your experience (unless the type of job you're looking to enter requires a specific certification). The only certificate you'll be needing at this point is a Learn How To Use Google 101. :) |
