I recently got this to take to school for CS. It's a bit overkill but I can use it for anything really:

Edit: Disregard Orgy's post. The drugs are getting to him.

They have definitely gotten more expensive lol

Used is risky though, better to shell out some more cash for a new computer.

You should get a thinkpad. You definitely don't need a gaming laptop

I'd say go for it, these types of things are what MacBooks are made for.

$500 Chromebook, Crouton, and a Linux distro of your choosing. $1000 for a desktop that'll do whatever you need it to do.

Exactly. Just get a MBP. I've done development for 7 years now (more, really, but I don't count my teenage years). I've used Windows machines, Linux machines, and OS X machines. OS X wins hands down. I hated on OS X for the longest time, spouting off the same shit everyone else does "over priced hardware etc" but realistically it's just a super solid machine. All of its components are built to mesh perfectly together. It's not mix and matching a bunch of hardware and drivers. Also, and I know this may seem small, but the body is aluminum. Even if you don't get a MBP, get an aluminum bodied laptop. The difference is quite noticeable when you're using it vs one of those shitty plastic machines.

Plus with OS X, pretty much everything you need is supported. You've got a built in terminal, you've got everything you need for development. If you choose to get into Apple-related dev, you'll have access to that as well (xcode).

Obviously you won't be able to do a whole lot of gaming on it, but what retard games on a laptop anyway

I bought one for uni today. Acer Spin 7.

i7, 8 GB RAM, CPU, GPU, Touchscreen, 2-i-1 (laptop & surfpad), 1.1 CM thin, much more.
Am loving it so far. It's one that i can easily recommend to you.
