Was This An Attempted Double-Spend? - GhostLikesToast - Nov 5, 2017

So about 2 days ago the user Legend VIPER  and I agreed on an exchange. My $25 AGC.com card for his BTC.

I made sure to tell him to use a decent miner fee so I wouldn't have to wait more then 12 hours to get my BTC.

As soon as he made the BTC transaction, he starts demanding I send code already before any confirms:

"I send ur btc

Plz send my code "

I told him I must wait for 3 confirmations so I don't risk getting scammed.

His response:

"You know that you are gonno recieve the payment in sometime "

After having to explain to him that I wont risk getting scammed by a member I have no previous history with, He says the following:

"Ok sure sorry but you know that i get only small commissions on small cards(so noone ises high fee) if that's what you want i can wait for the confirmations.you can send me the card after that. "

So all was well, Til this morning I wake up and the transaction STILL hasnt gottena  single confirmation. It's literally been 1d 21hours, while the ETA for a confirmation says 5 hours.

I also woke up to these 3 messages from him:

"Please either return my btc or give me the agc code "
"Please either return me to my btc or give agc code

My btc address: BTC Adress*"  (censored for his privacy)

"Let me either return my btc or give an agc code in 24 hours if you do not return any of the two things, then I will open a scam report, so please return one thing to me.

my btc address:*BTC Adress
"

So my question is this:  Was this an attempted double-spend scam? Still no confirmations and now he's demanding the $25 code or a refund of the BTC I still haven't even gotten.

I'm not TOO familiar with double-spending so I made this thread to get a little insight on the situation. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

(P.S. This is in no way a scam report, just need advice on this topic/exchange.)

Post the TXID & don't give him shit until the payment confirms.

He can't double spent these coins easily but it depends on wallet and you should just accelerate that transaction.

Here is the TXID: 6daeb6e8849b02319ade8ec0c84e82cc9f2131fc1111719a3fc3ca4d2044e7c4

To the rest of you: I don't plan on give me anything, unless the transaction actually gets 3 confirmations, in which case I will just refund the BTC to him.

Yes this is an attempted double spend, he paid 0.09$ fees. This wont get confirmed if you don't accelerate it

Did he told you where did he sent you coins from? If he sent from some exchange or wallet like coinbase he can't double spent.

No he didn't say. Here's some info from Blockonomics about the transaction:

Transaction ID: 6daeb6e8849b02319ade8ec0c84e82cc9f2131fc1111719a3fc3ca4d2044e7c4
Transaction Fees: 0.0000113 BTC
Transaction Size: 224 bytes
Fee rate: 5 satoshi per byte

That's literally the lowest transaction fee I've ever seen. At this point I'm pretty sure this was an attempted double-spend.

Should I make a community alert about it? Or maybe give it 1 more day to see if it confirms.

Any insight is greatly appreciated.

Thank you, I have sent him back his BTC, -fees of course.

Closing thread now, but I would suggest everyone to Deal With Caution when exchanging with this user.

EDIT: nvm I can't close threads apparently lol.

RE: Was This An Attempted Double-Spend? - Orgy - Nov 5, 2017

No. Just because the fees are low doesn't mean that he's trying to double spend. Fees fluctuate wildly these days so it's possible he just didn't know better. If another TX with the same inputs didn't hit the mempool, there's no reason to believe he was trying to double spend. Hanlon's Razor, people.
