MAC Address >> Remote IP Address? - PunchingMule - Nov 7, 2017

I have the MAC address of router.  I would love to try out a MITM attack on the router, but I think I would need to know it's remote (broadcast) IP address.  Anyone know how to obtain this?

This is a wrong section. All script-kiddies non-sense in the hacking section.

MAC addy will not some how convert to an IP. At least you may now have an idea of what the device might be.

Thanks sirru5h.  And, apologies if this is the wrong forum section.  With the MAC address (and channel number and make/model of router), what can I do remotely?

Hi ,
you can't really do something , maybe  see the manufacturer name and the model, your MAC address is only visible to other machines available on the same local network. I mean you can't hack with it if you aren't on the same LAN

Well if you can get physically close enough to the router you might be able to find it's IP address.

Do you know where the router is located?

Because if you do, get close to the router [close enough to be able to capture packets] assuming it's a wireless router.

Use wireshark [or any other packet capture utility]

Limit packet capture to only the routers mac address [(ether src <MAC_ADDRESS_THAT_U_HAVE>) || (ether dst <MAC_ADDRESS_THAT_U_HAVE>)]

This should capture every packet to and from that particular MAC Address. Hopefully one of the packet has it's public IP.

Worth a try.

Hmmmm... but there MUST be some way to remotely access a computer, right?  Is the ONLY way to play with a remote machine through exploits/shells/etc that the victim must open manually?

See above where I stated that "there MUST be some way to remotely access a computer, right?  Is the ONLY way to play with a remote machine through exploits/shells/etc that the victim must open manually?"

What about REMOTELY accessing the router for a RouterSploit style attack?

Mac address are used for lan connections only. They are not passed in the internet. You can only do LAN attacks with Mac address or those attacks which require you to be close to the router.
As you stated that there must be someway to hack other than malwares, etc which the victim needs to download, then there are other ways you can hack without requiring victim interaction. But with Macaddress, you cannot hack remotely.

Alright.  Totally makes sense now.  Thank you.  So if I know the MAC address (but not the broadcast IP, for example) what ways might I be able to hack without requiring victim interaction?
