Just FYI. Will apparently allow soft downgrade to 3.55 on supported consoles.

I've had a JTAG since 2012 and it's been gaining dust for a good while now. Anyone wanna sell me on why I should get a cheap PS3 for the fuck of it ONLY IF this exploit comes out and actually allows me to purchase a PS3 and downgrade to 3.55? The "Xbox LIVE" of PS3 is free, right? That right there seems like a good enough reason tbh but I'd like to know a little more before I make the jump.

Yup the PS3 online is free. I'd wait until it comes out until you get the PS3 because prices won't jump up right away, it'll take months.

Yes if this exploit allows you to downgrade on 3.55 (on 1000 and 2000 series consoles), then definitely get a second hand one and do it. Baring in mind you obviously have a ban risk just like on the Xbox.
