Water damage - Omise - Nov 13, 2017

Hi guys, earlier today I spilled a glass of ice water on my laptop's keyboard. It instantly turned itself off and I quickly unplugged it. I disassembled it and swabbed the boards I could get to with alcohol and now it's working - well, sort of. If I use the charger then the screen will go black, and sometimes the screen will just go black regardless. I've yet to check internal connections again, but I think I may have been some display pins during my trial and error attempt at cable management so that the hinges would work properly.
I'm wondering if the black screen issue is common after water damage, and if so can you please link me to any relevant information. I've seen the suggestion to unplug the battery and to hold the power button for a minute, but that didn't help anything. Thanks guys 🤝
The laptop model is np740u5l-y02us

Generally what kills your electronics with water damage is turning on the computer when the computer has not fully dried yet. Usually short circuiting components on the motherboard. It sounds like the area around the charging port may have been damaged. What I'd do is disassembly it and check that specific area for any damage you might see. Also double check your cables/connections in-case you did mess up reassembling it.

First of all, you made a huge mistake turning your laptop on again that quickly.

Secondly, take it apart ASAP and let it dry properly, put it out in the sun for a few hours or try using rice or whatever google will spit out. Then try again.

Using rice is not advisable.

What happens to rice when it dries out after it’s absorbed water?

The starch covers everything.

If anything just let it air dry, but sounds like the damage may already be done.

Well yes.
I once did it though using plenty of rice and refresh it often before it turn into starch. Its doable if you have the time and attention.
Otherwise just letting it dry in the open air/sun would be the best.
