Allow Group Owners to Promote Leaders - Night Fury - Nov 14, 2017 There is an issue that I believe affects both group owners and the admin. When an owner wishes to promote someone to leader, they must first contact the admin via PM. On top of every other matter that needs tending to, the admin also then holds the responsibility of promoting/removing people from leadership ranks that he likely holds no interest in. Rather than use the current system, which may flood the admin's inbox with unnecessary messages, I believe it would be better if owners were able to have some more control over their asset. In addition, as a way to be fair to both users at the group level, I believe an e-invite system would work best to promote an individual. When it comes to removal, the owner could remove a leader with the click of a button. As to how the suggestion would work in tangible form, the owner of a group could have access to a separate panel for leadership. In simple text form, it would work something like this:_____________________________________________________________________ Leaders for [Insert Group]: [Person 1] x [Person 2] x [Person 3] x [ Person 4 ] ~ (x) [ vacant ] +_____________________________________________________________________ The purpose of the "x" should be pretty understandable for anyone, but if not, it would just allow the owner to remove someone from a leadership position if the need ever arises. The "~" would display to the owner that the invitation for leadership in the group has been sent, but it has not yet been acted upon by the invitee. The user that receives the invitation could decide whether they wish to reject or accept the invitation. However, if the owner wishes to cancel the invitation after they send it, they can simply press the "x" located next to the tilde (~). The "+" would open up a prompt where the owner could then send an e-invite to someone, by username or UID, for leadership in the group. To recap, this system would: 1. Eliminate the message load of the admin. 2. Let the admin tend to matters that he is actually concerned with. 3. Create a more peer-to-peer connection between users when it comes to promotion. This would lead to an overall decrease in burden for all parties involved in the group-promotion process. RE: Allow Group Owners to Promote Leaders - Lrrr - Nov 14, 2017 This is a really solid idea that would help groups out for sure. Nice suggestion. RE: Allow Group Owners to Promote Leaders - topdog77 - Nov 14, 2017 I could see this being very useful for group owners(including myself) Omni is a busy man and I'm guessing he doesn't enjoy sitting promoting leaders for every group. If Omni thinks its possible to do this I'd love to see it :). RE: Allow Group Owners to Promote Leaders - Froggy - Nov 14, 2017 I like this idea, though not sure he'd want to spend the time on this. From your recent news release, I believe improving on the current system is exactly what he will be spending his time on. RE: Allow Group Owners to Promote Leaders - ra1d - Nov 14, 2017 Omni has said for years he'd improve the features for group owners if the MyBB upgrade would make it easier for him. I would like to see this implemented as well. RE: Allow Group Owners to Promote Leaders - Realizm - Nov 14, 2017 It's been suggested many times, even by myself to allow owners to appoint/remove leaders on their own. I know there was a suggestion made with a list of features for groups once and Omni said that most were ideas he would like to implement someday... but groups have been a bit of a disappointment for the last ~5years with how much outreach they have on the forum. So with something that really only effects a small part of HF, group features have taken to the back burner. And I feel like they are only further on the back burner with HF now trying to be updated and catch up with the trends it once set. Maybe one day features like this will be implemented, but with everything going on I wouldn't count on it being anytime soon. Omni really wants to work towards being mobile friendly and implementing features that help the majority, not to mention getting HF fully updated to 1.8. I've even seen a post where he may switch from MyBB to have more features and an easier, mobile friendly experience. RE: Allow Group Owners to Promote Leaders - CPA Exposé - Nov 14, 2017 Does the admin get so many requests per day that this is actually necessary? Serious question, as I️m not very involved in groups. That's what I've done. I've laid out a suggestion that is more than just saying: "Lemme appoint/remove my group's leaders." The rest of your response seems like somewhat of a bleak outlook on life. I don't really see how that benefits the discussion in any way. Regardless of how you perceive the status of groups, they still exist on the forum. Additionally, no matter the platform, I believe this could be an improvement that would benefit all parties involved. Besides that, he just reopened this section. In doing so, I'd presume that implies he is willing to hear from his members about ways he can improve his forum. The hopelessness you're exuding doesn't really contribute much in any way. Still, thank you for your feedback, Realizm. (Nov 14, 2017 12:52 PM)Crumbs Wrote: Does the admin get so many requests per day that this is actually necessary? With 20 groups on the site, and potentially more down the road, it seems like a prudent and practical measure to take to lighten the admin's load. I can't speak for the amount of PMs he receives daily, but if anything, this would surely free some time and unnecessary correspondence from his busy schedule. Group "outreach" or whether they have been a disappointment to you has zero relevance when it comes to this idea. Contrary to popular belief groups don't have to be made for the purpose of bettering the forum or doing community events/giveaways. When someone owns a group, anything they do with it is fair play and no one else can say otherwise. I'm sure Omni doesn't care about the quality of the groups much either, whether the next group is going to be for anime lovers like Baka or the next Red Lions is irrelevant. All the group owners would be able to use this feature which is another reason why I think we need it now (or when the upgrade/theme is finished) and why groups aren't on the back burner. We could of course ask Omni himself on the opinion on the state of groups now vs. ~5 years ago but I strongly believe that's irrelevant when it comes to features concerning group management. So reasonably, something like being able to add and remove leaders should be easier to manage. RE: Allow Group Owners to Promote Leaders - DenizZ - Nov 14, 2017 I totally agree with this suggestion. RE: Allow Group Owners to Promote Leaders - Cameron - Nov 14, 2017 Would love to see this implemented. I'm unsure of the work involved in doing this but I assume it'd have to be more beneficial for Omniscient in the long run. |
