smallest Linux-Distro able to succesfully host Virtual Machines - --_n0madIQ_-- - Dec 27, 2017 Hello, I have a question to anyone that has some experiënce with using Linux as a host for Virtual_Machines. I have a old desktop-pc here that I want to use as a secure virtual Testing-and-Training-Lab. Why??? I really need this for my ComTIA-Linux+_studie and for testing all the cracking-tools, weard_software , virusses, keyloggers, etc. I have gathered this year from all over the WEB. .. Sadly this desktop only has a CPU that's a AthlonII-x3 (3.2ghz) and only has 12GB-RAMM. I don't think 12GB-Ramm will not do but I'm worried about the CPU beïng to weak to give enough power to run both Host-OS and Guest-OS smoothly. The only sollution I can think off at this moment is to use some small Linux-Distro Like Puppy-Linux as my Host-System for Virtualbox to spare my system resources! It's only purpose will be keeping my VM,s secure and running smoothly. Is this a smart thing to do (Or am I just beïng A retarded-newbie asking stupid questions for stupid plans? 😠 ) I really could use some guidance here building and configuring the thing !!! Please help me out in finding a good sollution or alternative !!! ps: Sorry for my poor Grammar.. I'm working on that as well! RE: smallest Linux-Distro able to succesfully host Virtual Machines - Cannot Compute - Dec 27, 2017 Pretty much any distro should be able to handle this. However I would suggest you look into something more along the lines of a bare metal hypervisor. Didn't expect that for an awnser.. ❓ LOL! 👍 I glad you mention something complete different from my plan. I like new insights.. I'm about to learn some whole new skill-set in Virtualisation if I listen to you am I right? To be honest I haven't got any experiënce with type 1 Hypervisors but I did a quick google search and found a lot of Info about the topic. It seems there are some payed versions and also free open-source ones. My eye fel on something written about driver and firmware issues.. Don't know for sure.. Need to do some more research about this, and I will .... Will be needing some extra coffee ... haha Question: Why would you personally choose for this option over simpel V-BOX or such? Just because its the smallest, less consuming sollution or does it have more positive quality's?This seems to me like a pro-sollution big Enterprises use to run their servers on.. I like that! Can you tell me some more about your motivation ? To much expenses for only a few VMś .. Nice but not now! Perhaps in a few years when I (hopefully) will be administrating my own Bulletproof-Servers somewhere... 😝 But untill then I better keep it as low cost as possible! There seemed to be loads of other Virtualization tools for Linux and I have chosen for a native Linux peace of software.. Giving it a shot as soon as I can.. ProxMox, Ovirt, and Hyper-v all have free versions RE: smallest Linux-Distro able to succesfully host Virtual Machines - enterdavertex - Feb 5, 2018 Bunsenlabs , Q4OS. Those linux Distro are mainly the best I did use for lightweight system. You can still use Archlabs , which is a fork of Bunsenlabs with the Arch method in mind. Bunsen is still a 600MB iso. And Q4OS is pushing that. |
