Youtube tutorials = how to install/set it up. Not actually what it is or what it does

Virtualbox is a virtualization software.

You ever played gameboy games through an emulator either on your phone or computer? That's emulation, basically your computer is acting as hardware that it doesnt have (gameboy processor and display.)

Virtualization is similar, instead of emulating software, ie. Pretending it has hardware it doesnt, your computer has the hardware but decides to run the software in a protected environment, ie. A certain memory allocation, only giving acces to some parts of the hardware, like 2GB of ram instead of 16, and 2 cores of your cpu instead of 8. You can choose how much of each part you want to use, or if you want to use certain parts or not . Thats what VirtualBox does. It runs an operating system within your current operating system, using only certain allocations of hardware, in case you want to dispose of it quickly and easily.
