First magazine design/layout design I have done, for my uni module. - fxwleh - Feb 9, 2018 imgur. com/a/NBGwf if someone could post the link in replies, that would be cool. As I cannot post links... even when trying to showcase designs lol. Thanks man, definitely something I can include in my portfolio and something I have found to have interest in :) RE: First magazine design/layout design I have done, for my uni module. - Mr. Robot - Feb 10, 2018 Hey dude that looks really awesome. Do you have any other work? I know a number of people who would really be interested in you designing magazines/pdfs like this. Believe it or not, this was my first magazine/layout design I have ever done, my lecturer is really impressed and thinks I should look into doing it more, as I seem to enjoy it and I have a good sense of layout. So the answer is no really, the rest of the work I have done in my course is normal graphic design work such as posters etc, so I've not got much layout designs I can show you. Thank you though, definitely interested to see what I could do though! You should consider making a layout guide for hacking or something and sell it. Collab with knowledgeable users and make it work. RE: First magazine design/layout design I have done, for my uni module. - Komorebi - Feb 10, 2018 Amazing job man! It looks professional. RE: First magazine design/layout design I have done, for my uni module. - Mister Slyther - Feb 10, 2018 Don't really design magazines myself, but you have consistency and alignment issues here. for example: https://i.gyazo.com/bfa95489cd29e027167d74625f6a4bc8.png Why is your image touching the black line? doesn't look nice if I'm gonna be honest, your elements and texts need more spacing, more breathing. You can solve that issue by pushing the line down more, the elements are far too close to each other. another example: https://i.gyazo.com/a36088325ba1f714d1a82147545fb7d1.png Most of your texts are using the alignment: left or right, which is okay, but then one paragraph is center aligned? that ruins the consistency. The big X on the magazine here: https://i.imgur.com/xL2KJ5o.png - I don't particularly like it, you can do something more cleaner and better, think you should experiment. But honestly, because it is your first magazine I do have to give you a solid rating of 7/10, you've done allot better on your first compared to many other firsts I have seen. Keep it up sir 🤝 RE: First magazine design/layout design I have done, for my uni module. - fxwleh - Feb 10, 2018 (Feb 10, 2018 09:02 AM)Mister Slyther Wrote: Don't really design magazines myself, but you have consistency and alignment issues here. Can you expand on "Most of your texts are using the alignment: left or right, which is okay, but then one paragraph is center aligned? that ruins the consistency."? gyazo .com/6703a0b69ae36c6ad03a0142c21b09ce everything is aligned in columns & grids, the only thing that's different is the stand-first on the far left, which I put there to create more white space. The lines on the contents page were used to break up each category so it made it more clear and easy to understand rather than text being placed everywhere without a break. I tried without and it looked strange, all the text was just in a line without anything to break it up and make each category clear. The X on the front cover is for Exeter, which is the city the magazine is issued in, making this magazine stand out compared to others was a big issue (no pun intended) because most magazines seem to follow the same rules of design and nothing stands out any more, so I went for a bit of a creative twist; was worth a shot to make it a little different! :) thank you though, appreciate the constructive criticism! RE: First magazine design/layout design I have done, for my uni module. - SkullTraill - Feb 10, 2018 There's a massive difference in spacing between column 1 and 2 vs the rest of the columns. Plus I think you could so something more interesting with the alignments, and add more graphic elements around so that it doesn't look so bland. That's because that's where the page folds... and creates the even space, also that's perfectly aligned in columns designed for magazine layouts. Having columns too close to the centre of the spread is a bad idea for many reasons. It's meant to be simple, and it's meant to have an upmarket feel towards it, it's not meant to be a "Let's see how creative you can be" task, it's simply about layout and keeping it looking more professional. RE: First magazine design/layout design I have done, for my uni module. - Renovatum - Feb 10, 2018 Nice design, my man. This looks like something ripped from a professional magazine which has been doing it for years, seriously. Clean and crisp- I especially like the 'contents' page.
