Clarification. ss7 hacking considered Black Hat or no? - Mad76e - Mar 6, 2018

I was about to write an thread about SS7 hacking, but something told me to check here first. Given its .. hmm applications, is this considered to be black hat or not

I would include that in the Blackhat category unless you are using it for Ethical Hacking purposes. For instance, RATs are blackhat, but people promote them for Security purposes.

HF does not care how you use the product.
You don't need the BS about "educational purposes".

Think of it this way. If I post a thread on how to build a skimmer and tell you how it can be used 10 ways other than carding, I am going to get my account closed. Sure, I can put "don't use this at an ATM" and "educational purposes only" but at the end of the day, it's carding and Omni and authorities don't care about your intentions.

So back to OP, your topic should be fine. It's not blackhat as long as it doesn't involve SE'ing to do it. SS7 hacking, at its core level, is not much different than using Metasploit.

You can read more specifics of DBA in the Help Docs.

I would assume it's allowed. But then again, isn't the only use of attacking SS7 to get access to a telephony network and potentially steal sensitive information? That would be categorized as stealing peoples information and potentially fraudulent activities. I would ignore the above posts and wait for an official response from Omniscient.

Read Elitas's comment. That is why I said it could be blackhat depending on the purpose.

I don't see where we have a current policy to prevent the discussion.
