Post Editing Changes - Omniscient - Mar 7, 2018 Xerotic and I have added a new plugin to HF that does a Post Editing History. It's a plugin at MyBB which we've altered to suit HF. It creates versions of the post and allows Admins and Staff to view editing history, to compare, and even revert. We've also altered the plugin for some additional limitation settings. "Number of Edits Allowed" - This is currently set to 10. Which means once you've edited your post 10 times you will not be able to edit it again. "Time Between Edits" - This means you must wait 30 seconds between your edits. Edits are not logged if done within an hour. The edit history is pruned after 60 days. I'll try to explain how this all functions for you. 1. You make a post. 2. You must wait at least 30 seconds before you can edit. 3. If you want more than 1 hour to edit the post the version is stored in the history log. 4. If your post has 10 edits in the history log it will not allow you to further edit the page. 5. After 60 days edits are pruned so if you had 10 edits and 1 got pruned you can edit it again. So to recap and explain again. You can't edit a post within 30 seconds. Only after 1 hour of your last edit will a new edit be saved. You could potentially edit a new post 10 times in 30 minutes but only 1 edit is actually saved. I may alter the plugin further and adjust settings according to the communities needs but this should work well enough for us now. This plugin now prevents all forms of edit abuse. Any questions? If you find a bug please report it to me asap. RE: Post Editing Changes - Charger - Mar 7, 2018 This should cut down on the people that remove their threads. Let's see how this goes. RE: Post Editing Changes - Deany - Mar 7, 2018 This is interesting. I usually just stick to one thread for let's say, currency exchange. So if I exchange say 10 times I'd have to make another thread? Not a problem I suppose. RE: Post Editing Changes - Omniscient - Mar 7, 2018 (Mar 7, 2018 01:09 PM)Japanese Wrote: This is interesting. And a change is only registered once in an hour. So let's say you have a post, you edit but realize you screwed up the edit. You have to wait about 30 seconds to edit the thread again but because the new edit was within an hour it's not logged. RE: Post Editing Changes - Biggy - Mar 7, 2018 Sweet, my suggestion made is through! Glad to see this. The edit abuse should hopefully stem down and we can stop seeing content be removed from the forums. Nice job Omni & Xerotic! Keep up the good work, men. RE: Post Editing Changes - webdev77 - Mar 7, 2018 Very reasonable restrictions here. I highly doubt anyone will run into these restrictions unless they just can't make up their mind what they want their thread to be on. RE: Post Editing Changes - Renowned - Mar 7, 2018 Sounds like a great addition, nice work Omni and Xerotic! RE: Post Editing Changes - ryan⚜ - Mar 7, 2018 Does the hour extend each time you make an edit? Or is it an hour from the first edit? RE: Post Editing Changes - licker98 - Mar 7, 2018 This is a nice change. I like it. RE: Post Editing Changes - Riyu - Mar 7, 2018 Hopefully, this will completely stop the thread edit abuse going on. RE: Post Editing Changes - illuminati▲ - Mar 7, 2018 I'm curious to know, does this apply to writ3rs, seeing how sometimes we may have to edit more than 10 times? within certain threads that we have? RE: Post Editing Changes - Omniscient - Mar 7, 2018 Quote:Sweet, my suggestion made is through! Why does it feel like you take credit for way too many things that happen around here? Quote:Does the hour extend each time you make an edit? Or is it an hour from the first edit? Maybe Xerotic can answer that by double-checking the code but my guess is that it checks if the edit dateline exists from within the hour and then simply does not save a new entry. It should be confirmed though. Quote:Hopefully, this will completely stop the thread edit abuse going on. It will and it does. Best part is that it's an automated plugin. Requires no new rules or policies or staff enforcement. Didn’t mean to take away from you and Xerotics good work. My apologies. I didn’t do much except make the suggestion, just happy to see more implemented. This is great for the marketplace sellers who need to edit their thread once every few weeks. RE: Post Editing Changes - Omniscient - Mar 7, 2018 (Mar 7, 2018 01:48 PM)Vyrez. Like increasing the amount of edits allowed or changing prune times. It will work out and we should have a great system now to prevent abuse. It may even help against scammers that alter their threads. |
