Do you feel games were better when you were a kid? - Byte™ - Apr 22, 2018
I am constantly looking around for the next "big" MMORPG game to play or something entertaining that fits well with the perfect amount of grind for reward etc. But think back when you were a kid, personally I would just sit around play fish tycoon or flash games all day, or legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time for literally months non-stop just doing the same old thing because I never read dialog and didn't know what the fuck I was doing lol. Hell I remember just playing offline games which seem to have a better story than most games today because everyone wants to focus on the multiplayer side of stuff.
So how do you feel? Did the games you play in your childhood seem better than what we are offered today? (Not in terms of graphics, but just how much you enjoyed them) or is that just how kids minds are, they love everything they play no matter how boring it is.

Definitely, but you can see this trend in everything. Things were new as a kid, you didn't see the same systems that are there in a lot of games, or at least you didn't notice them as much.
However I do think a big part of it is just nostalgia, the games weren't better, they were just new. Some new big MMORPG will probably come along, either that or another type of game to dominate the market.

Is it games that have changed or us it us just growing up? I think it's the later. Youth these days are still fascinated by video games that myself, when I was younger, would also enjoy. I honestly just feel like it's a part of growing up around the internet and games for so long that we have become somewhat acclimatised to it. I'm still waiting for the next big thing though but I don't see it happening for awhile.

Absolutely 100% games improve graphically and in terms of action at a cost of depth and integrity. But I think that largely because the best games generally come from smaller dev teams and as the franchise gains popularity and budget they employ larger teams and sellout so to speak. I think only slight exception I know of to that rule is like the fallout series which started out great and really improved up until new Vegas then dialogue and quality dropped in favour of more action to appeal to the call of duty generation

Answering this type of question can be challenging because what people look for in a quality game is always going to vary. When most of us were kids there were game systems that didn't do so amazing in the graphics department. At a young age I was playing gameboy, snes, and n64 and these systems did not have crazy graphics so the games had to be fun. From the ps2 and original xbox era and beyond graphics improved so people became amazed with what they saw instead of being amazed with what they played. It's hard to tell which games were better it's not like there is a 90s version of gta 5 out there but mario is an og in the game.

I agree completely. I have a younger brother who is about 6 years younger than I am and he still is excited for new games and such while I'm just kinda like in the "Yeah that's kinda cool" mindset.
Only things I really get excited for anymore are the new madden games/nba games. Although I am pretty excited for State of Decay 2 next month.

I feel like games where better, but its probably because it was our first times experiencing those genres. Normally people that game at a younger age stop as they get older as the games get "boring" as there isnt much that can be unique. My example is i got bored of gta in under a month because all my childhood i basically played Simpsons Hit and Run on PS2

I'm not sure if they were better because we were younger or because of the communities we used to play in. Many of the games I played when I was younger had great communities but it seems right now that communities are quite toxic. It could also be that we lost interest in gaming because we see the same trends with them and many of them end up being pay2win instead of good old grind to win.

Yeah. Big fan of Gauntlet series here. That game is so much better than modern crap they produce nowadays.
