Downtime - Omniscient - Apr 30, 2018 I hate having to type these up sometimes. First off, I'm feeling under-the-weather. I'm a bit ill, headache, sore throat, and cough. I just don't feel very good at all. This morning I got up around 9pm. For the second day in a row it appeared the server went offline for 30 minutes from midnight to 12:30am which is when there are some cron jobs which restarts the server and does some log rotating. I figured I would look into it and I took it as a good time to do some server updates. After running a couple updates, one of which was Apache, the HTTPD process wouldn't start. It gave me an APR error. Quote:/usr/sbin/httpd: Undefined symbol "apr_bucket_alloc_aligned_floor" After some digging it appears to be related to the APR (Apache Portable Runtime) which is basically a set of tools for Apache. Seems we have some issue on the server with our library and having the apache build properly. Not a lot of help online related to the problem. I did a lot of updating of various server packages and tried different configurations to get it working but nothing. And please note that I plan on moving us to a new server within the next week and so this failure on the old server was pushing me to just move on if I couldn't get it fixed right away. I told myself I'd give it 3-4 hours and I would just give-up and move us. A move at this time would mean 24-48 hours of downtime because I still have some configuring to do on the new server. So on top of all this I'm sick and rather upset that I have to deal with this crap right now. If I was an employee instead of the boss I'd just call out sick and sit on the couch. I really don't want to make any mistakes in the move or setting up the new server. It requires 100% mental focus. Something I do not have right now. Well, after 4 hours and just about to give-up I got it working. I basically removed ever single trace of the existing APR libs and on the next build of Apache it installed all the libs required without conflict. So bingo, down for 4 hours but at least I don't have to move us yet. We will be moving soon and that will be a day of downtime. Sorry about this today. Shit happens I suppose. Still not sure if that midnight server crash is fixed or not either but I suppose we'll just live with it until we move. New server has more resources and will not be FreeBSD. I'm hoping it will be more stable and easier to configure and update. Thank you. RE: Downtime - Consecvent - Apr 30, 2018 Thanks for all the effort you are doing for Hackforums. I think you should make a blog kinda thing, with such important updates. Or a side bar with announcements. Will reach more people like that imho. That's how all major brands give updates on big issues (if mobile app, they got push notifications) but a blog for updates could work as well. RE: Downtime - ᴇccy - Apr 30, 2018 Hope you get better man :) RE: Downtime - Biggy - Apr 30, 2018 Now that the site is up go and rest up, you deserve that for all the work recently.
