[Noob Question] Why do people not use virus total anymore? - ZepTiC - May 27, 2018
title says all really. i've seen people saying not to use virustotal to check files. how comes? what is best to use?

Virustotal is great at what it does and that's why people don't want to use it for some stuff here. They distribute submissions to antiviruses so if you're uploading a stub from a crypter or anything that is supposed to be hard to detect, it will start getting detected.
If you are just looking to see if a file is clean or not virustotal is a good tool

Once submitted to virustotal youll find stubs get detected very quickly. Good post imaloser!

Virustotal is great but it spreads the file across other scanners. That's why crypters tell you not to upload to VirusTotal.

VirusTotal is a great service and I do not see why anyone would dislike it. I use it all the time and many posts use it. If you need a alternative to VirusTotal I would recommend Metascan Online, VirSCAN, Jotti, and NoVirusThanks.

All online scanners that did not distribute are unavailable (scan4u, viruscheckmate, nodistribute, majyx) while we cannot use virustotal for obvious reasons.
I am thinking about setting up my own server for online virus scanning..
