His death is caused by his battle with Cancer, which he unfortunately lost. The type of cancer was esophageal cancer, which was reported by his wife, Carolyn Dabney. Mr. Dabney worked with Nolan Bushnell, which they both created Atari. They also worked on creating sound effects that are now established with '70s and '80s arcade systems. The two of them also worked together to create Chuck E. Cheese's, which was Pizza Time Theatre at first. Mr. Dabney, and Mrs. Dabney, owned a grocery store they bought in the mid 1990s, and owned that for a decade. Mrs. Dabney recalled his sense of humor, and handing out business cards to people he met. The cards were a gift from a friend, they read "Ted Dabney, the Only Valid Opinion." He joined the Marine Corps after not having money to go to college, and served for three years. He then worked for Bank of America and Hewlett-Packard Co. and then also Ampex Corporation. He also met Nolan Bushnell at an Ampex office. Mr. Bushnell said "Ted was my partner, co-founder, fellow dreamer and friend. I’ll always cherish the time we spent together. RIP", regarding Mr. Dabney.
