There are images where data has been stripped away, for example images uploaded on social media do not contain much info.

You can look at it in a hex editor and parse it yourself or use online parser

To be honest there's a tool in Kali Linux called MetaGooFill that can get MetaData from everything from websites to local files. If there's any metadata then MGF will find it.
