Never bothered playing them because in my experience all free MMORPGs suck, but I've heard good things about Neverwinter, Guild Wars 2, and TERA. I used to play Lord of the Rings Online and enjoyed it, but it's pretty old at this point. I believe Final Fantasy XIV is free up to level 35, but personally I wouldn't even try it unless you're willing to spend $13 a month on sub to move past that. Game is fantastic, though, poured over a thousand hours into it.
If you're willing to drop some money, Elder Scrolls Online is $10 right now and once you buy it there is no monthly sub.

I personally can vouch for TERA although I haven't played it in a while, when I did the gameplay was pretty good and the combat was the best part of the game. The quests and dungeons were nothing special, dunno about new content though.

Adventure Quest 3D. 3D version of the long running Adventure Quest and Adventure Quest Worlds, both very good games!
Atm, AQ3D is on steam in early access I think, currently in it's beta.
It's got a lot of fun things to do, with an expanding class system and updates every week. Apparently they haven't missed an update on any of their games for years.

You should look up San Andreas multiplayer, there’s a lot of role-play servers that are pretty cool, I used to play in los santos server that was pretty good they had their own forum and stuff for the players of the server, you meet some really cool people too
